Distance is straight-line from campus, not walking or bus time. Anything on Richmond Street is a direct route on the 2, 6 or 106; shops on Adelaide or Wharncliffe are closer on the map than they are in practice.
Student discounts
Two shops near campus publish a student rate on their own menus. Cut Culture on Albert Street lists a student special at $35 against a $40 standard cut. Juan’s Barber Salon on Richmond Street lists a student discount without publishing the amount, so ask when you book.
Those are the only two we could confirm from a published source. Others may offer a student rate without advertising it, and it is always worth asking with your student card. We do not list a discount we cannot point to.
Walk-ins between classes
If you are working around a timetable, the Walk-ins column above matters more than the rating. Twins Barbershop at 1135 Richmond Street is both the closest shop to campus and the most reviewed in the entire directory, and it takes walk-ins. Willie’s Clippers further down Richmond is the cheapest option near campus and also takes walk-ins.
Where the table says By appointment, turning up without booking will usually mean waiting or being turned away. Not confirmed means exactly that: we could not find the shop’s policy in any published source, so phone ahead rather than assume. That convention is explained on our methodology page.
Cheap cuts and splashing out
The price column is a tier rather than a menu, because prices move. At the affordable end, Willie’s Clippers and Gentlemen’s Barber on Richmond north of campus both sit in the $ tier. At the other end, Gold Standard and Ox and Bow are $$$ shops on Richmond Row, closer to a full grooming appointment than a quick trim. Individual prices are on each listing and are re-checked quarterly.
The neighbourhoods around campus
This page cuts across neighbourhood lines on purpose. If you would rather browse by area, each one has its own guide: Old North is the residential stretch immediately south of campus, Masonville sits north of it around the mall, Richmond Row is the strip running down toward downtown, and Downtown picks up where Richmond Row ends at Oxford Street.
